A General Nurse's Guide to Mental Health Issues - The South Pacific
This Conference will explore the more common mental health problems that clients may exhibit in our day to day interactions with them. The content will provide you with the knowledge and skill to offer initial support to adults who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate mental health services can be accessed, or the crisis resolves.
As part of the Conference, you will undertake the Standard Mental Health First Aid Course that equates to 12 hours of CPD and you will receive a certificate from Mental Health First Aid Australia identifying that you have completed same. Participants who complete this training are eligible to complete an online Accreditation Assessment in order to receive a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation valid for 3 years.
The other parts of the Conference will comprise a six-hour workshop looking at the issue of suicide in our society and the role of the Nurse in both the community and acute sectors. We will also spend an additional four hours reviewing the latest trends in mental health care in Australia.
Conference participants learn about the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
