Parking Safety Survey and Results

Nurse safety when parking

Following a recent incident on the Gold Coast where a nurse was car-jacked, we asked for input on how safe you feel when arriving and departing from work.

Nurses are arriving and leaving work at various hours depending on their shift. The majority that responded “between 10:00pm and 1:00am” provided comments such as “this is when I do not feel safe”.

The results of the survey alarmingly show that overall that nurses do not feel safe walking between their car and workplace, especially at night.  75% reported that there is no security present.  Other concerns included no lighting or poor lighting in car parks, non-secure parking with access to the public and the distance to the car park being significant and requiring staff to walk through unsafe areas including bush, dark streets and high-risk areas.

To get this message to those who can make change we need more feedback. Your participation will give Employers and Government and Opposition Ministers more reasons to act.

It takes just two minutes to complete the survey
