Reshaping Medication Safety: The role of Nurses as the gatekeeper for patient wellbeing

#nurses #pharmacology

6 July - 14 July 2019

Medication safety is dependent upon the Nurses’ ability to manage the human and systems factors that have the potential to adversely impact the accuracy of medication prescribing, dispensing and administration, and to educate patients to self-manage medications appropriately.*

In this conference we will explore the concept of medication safety and how we, as Nurses, using the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health care guidelines, can reaffirm our role of patient advocate in this complex area of health care delivery.

Conference Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain understanding of Medication Safety and an appreciation for the pivotal role of the Nurse in medicines management
  • Explore the principles of patient safety as they relate to medicines management
  • Engage in professional dialogue that reignites your passion for patient safety
  • Reflect on your role and develop strategies to enhance your capacity for person-centred care

This conference will provide the attendee with 24 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The venue for the conference is the Carnival Spirit as the ship cruises the South Pacific. The Conference venue will provide the conference attendee the fabulous opportunity to explore the beautiful South Pacific destinations outside of conference hours.

The presenters for this conference are Nurse Education Specialists with expert knowledge in the field of medication safety. Indeed, Dr Julie Martyn is a recognised authority on the subject. Her PHD thesis “An appreciative inquiry into medication administration by registered Nurses: The untold story” is often cited in the literature. Dr Martyn will be delivering the key note presentation at the conference.
